Tang Meng was born in Beijing in 1969. It is unclear when he started writing numbers on paper. His fascination for depicting series of numbers only became clear when his sister produced an inventory of everything in the parental home. Despite his interest in numbers, Meng was unable to keep up in maths lessons. He also had extreme difficulty in other subjects, and educational efforts were ultimately abandoned. Nowadays, he appears to concentrate on calculations, in the hope that he can return to school. Meng writes numbers on whatever material is available at the time. Responding to encouragement from his family, Meng turns his hand to other art forms with increasing regularity. His works are packed with cryptic codes, although most people only see numbers and dashes. Meng’s work featured in the Macoa Arts Festival 2014.
