Before visiting the studio, Yue Yue had never held a pencil or paintbrush. However, she was immediately enthralled by art – or more specifically, fascinated by working with coloured pens. She stuck at her new pursuit, and now cannot imagine her life without it. Yue grabs the viewer’s attention with her expressive use of colours. She doesn’t offer an answer to questions such as ‘Do you like art?’ and ‘Do you know any American artists?’, invariably replying: ‘I want the colours to blend into each other and always start at the outside edge, then I work towards the middle’. Yue has never heard of Mark Rothko. She leads us into a primal world that most of us find inaccessible, but simultaneously fascinating.
