Nol Vonk paints using large brushes on large canvases, resulting in powerful, monumental works. He frequently draws inspiration from a range of magazines and art books. Nol selects a subject that takes his interest and as he draws, he develops an extremely detailed design. However, once he starts painting, the meticulously sketched details gradually disappear. He paints over the preparatory shapes as if they are not even there. With Nol, a painting undergoes a surprising process of development. Very little often remains of the original design.
