Niilo Rytkönen is a retired farmer living outside of Suonenjoki in central Finland. His farm consisted of 12 hectares of land and 30 hectares of forest. Rytkönen had both cows and horses.
In the early eighties he began to collect dead branches, wood and lumps of stone to create sculptures. In the beginning he displayed his art on the walls of his barn. Then he filled the land around the house. Now all the gardens are filled with birds, beavers, bears and other animals. Some of the sculptures are non-figurative.
