Li Jie

Painting reassures and comforts Li Jie when she is going through difficult periods. She writes fragments of her thoughts in a notebook and develops some of these thoughts into colourful images. Her works are reminiscent of illustrations in children’s books. Jie’s use of opaque water colours means that the layers in her works automatically blend into a single entity. Jie spends a lot of time caring for her young son, and therefore commits a maximum of two and a half days to painting each week. Before the onset of psychiatric issues, she worked in an animation studio. A modest subsidy now enables Jie to fully devote her spare time to her art.
