Jannemiek Tukker uses ‘moving’ parallel lines in her work. By using symmetrical shapes she abstracts the human face. In 2005, she won the Beeldend Gesproken Art Award for her work Mama hangt de was op (Mum is hanging up the laundry). Jannemiek was still a teenager when she experienced her first out of body experience during a psychotic episode; at the age of 26, she descended into a psychosis that lasted for three months. She endured mortal terrors, afraid of the voices in her head, of the evil wizard who schemed to control her behaviour and of a salamander that lived in her spine.
