Prinzhorn rated Franz Karl Bühler’s work so highly that he made him the crowning glory of his series of masters. He positioned him as a true star, of the same calibre as Vincent van Gogh, and devoted the first page of Bildnerei der Geisteskranken (Artistry of the Mentally Ill) to him. In contrast, Dubuffet probably felt that Bühler’s work was not far enough removed from established art.
