When he was eighteen years old, Petri Martikainen was arrested in Copenhagen for possession of drugs. He was returned to Finland and placed under state supervision. Four years later he suffered a psychotic attack. Since then he has lived in homes or villages for mentally ill in the southwestern part of Finland, first in Kemiö, now in Perniö,.
Here, far away from his sailor parents, he became artistically active. His work reflects his interest in theosophy, mysticism and exotic Gods and cultures. Petri Martikainen also sings and composes music.
